FAQ’s

What should I do first when my air conditioner stops working?

1st Check to see if any breakers are tripped in the breaker box.
2nd Check the air conditioner filter, making sure it is clean.
3rd Make sure the covers are placed correctly on the furnace.
4th Make sure that the furnace switch is in the “On” position.

After checking these four things, if your AC is still not working, call Airstar Mechanical Service Inc.

How often should I service my air conditioner?

Your air conditioner should be serviced twice a year by a qualified air conditioning technician. Air conditioners that get service and maintenance have less break downs and last longer. Airstar provides a service agreement with many benefits for our loyal customers.

How may I lower my monthly utility bill?

The best way to lower your utility bill is to have your unit serviced before the summer starts and also replace the filters every month.  A properly maintained unit can save you up to 30% on your utility bill. Upgrading to a more efficient air conditioning unit can also decrease your utility bill. A new high efficiency unit can lower your utility bill by 50%.

How long should and air conditioner last?

The life expectancy of an air conditioner that receives service every year is between 15-20 years.  Units that are over 15 years need to be upgraded to more efficient and reliable units.

What are the steps to take when replacing your air conditioner?

  1. Know what brand of air conditioner you want.
  2. Decide how efficient of a unit you need.
  3. Know the square footage of your home.
  4. Know the rooms in the house that have problems with airflow.
  5. Research the company that you are getting bids from.
  6. Last call Airstar for a free estimate.

Should I decide to purchase an air conditioner based only on the price?

No, the lowest price is not always the best deal. An honest AC contractor is going to charge a fair price for his labor and the cost of the AC equipment. You want a contractor that will continue to be in business in the future. A contractor that underbids is not going to be in business in the case that your AC breaks down in the future.

What is SEER?

SEER (Seasonal Energy Efficiency Rating) is the number given to a specific AC unit that shows how efficient the unit is. The higher the number the more efficient the equipment is.
